The only reason we don’t have enough time is because we have a belief that says, “I don’t have enough time.”  Because we are holding in mind “not having enough time,” we get to be right.  In an effort to try to gain more time, we may give up sleep in an attempt to finish everything on our to-do lists.  Managing stress, by giving up sleep isn’t the answer.  Realistically we all have commitments to family, job(s), education, our home, socializing, etc.  The list of commitments at times can be rather extensive.  Lack of time, and/or lack of sleep, often results in low energy and difficulty in concentrating.  Other symptoms of not having enough time or lacking sleep may include forgetfulness or irritability.  By constantly being hurried or rushed, and experiencing restless or sleepless evenings, may result in other problems with your health and relationships.

If you would like to have more time, perhaps asking for help or surrendering a few projects may be helpful.  By intending to have enough time will help you to make better use of your time.  If you are agitated before going to sleep, the agitation you hold in mind actually disturbs you from achieving a quality night’s sleep.  By mentally trying to figure something out before bedtime also may result in a restless or sleeplessness evening.  The next step is often one out of frustration.  In this step we disapprove of everyone (including ourselves) and everything related to the matter which only causes us to be further agitated and moves us further away from a peaceful night’s sleep.  Hopefully you’ll agree that disapproving of the issue also doesn’t fix the problem.  Disapproving is a waste of time.  Disapproving robs us of time, energy and sleep.  And yet, we often miss seeing that we are the ones perpetuating our circumstances by mentally playing them over and over again. We act out in these ways, because we are on automatic.  This pattern is something that we’ve always done.  We would like to stop…, although we don’t know how to stop acting in this way…, and currently don’t have the answer to the matter.

How does it help us to give up sleep in order to gain more time?  Logically, we know that giving up sleep isn’t the solution.  If we are staying up later than usual to do homework, housework, or are working late to finish work from the office, we aren’t relaxed or peaceful.  If we are pacing the floor or counting sheep, unless of course we are a shepherd, also keeps us from sleeping peacefully.  Pacing or counting sheep indicates that something is out of harmony within our life.  Typically, when we are pacing, ceiling watching or counting sheep, we are also trying to figure something out.  Does figuring out how to pay the bills resolve the issue?  Does giving up sleep correct the dilemma with the bills?  Of course not… And yet many of us repeat this exact scenario because we aren’t aware that we are in the figuring it out mode.  Trust that figuring things won’t resolve any issue that you are struggling with.  Hopefully you’ll agree that giving up sleep also won’t fix the situation.  Another thing we can be certain of, is that when we are trying to figure something out, makes it almost impossible to have a quality night’s sleep.

Let’s look at things in this way.  By trying to figure something out, keeps our focus on wanting to change the situation and on wanting to know what to do.  If our focus was on having a peaceful resolution, that scenario is what we would be creating.  In trying to figure something out, we’ll often find that we are still agitated when the alarm goes off.  Furthermore, because we didn’t sleep well, we’ll also face another day of trying to make up for lost time and lost sleep.  Nothing positive was accomplished and we are the creators of this experience.

A better way of experiencing a good night’s sleep is to have an intention to sleep peacefully.  Notice the minute you decide to have a good night’s sleep, you hold in mind what you would like to achieve.  Positive decisions always result in positive results.  The saying, “Positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative,” proves itself out time and time again.  What we hold in mind, is what we will get.  Think about this for a moment, can someone other than you give you more time?  Can someone other than you give you a good night’s sleep?  We simply can’t want and have at the same time.  Wanting and having are opposite energies.  See for yourself by making a list of the things you want.  Notice that the things you want are things you currently do not have.  When we have something, we are no longer are coming from a position of lack.  In other words, we no longer want it.  If you’ll take a moment and create a second list including things you have, you’ll see for yourself the point being made.
