If we were to give up one really bad habit, it should be to disconnect from believing that we are unworthy in some manner. Unworthiness is an untruth that we have bought into. In truth, no one is unworthy unless they have pinned that label onto themself. Sometimes because of our misunderstanding of worthiness, we may mistakenly choose to believe that we are undeserving of good things. In truth, most of us aren’t really sure what is necessary to undo feeling insecure or unworthy, so we tend to do what we have always done.
It seems kind of backwards that most people relate to negative labels or negative self-talk as in some way being a safer route than being positive. Let’s take this for checking. Believing negativity creates positive outcomes is unrealistic. Let’s take a moment and discern. Positive is ALWAYS about goodness. So our choosing to be positive is actually creating a better outcome. Believing we are capable of having and achieving goals and other types of goodness is our expressing worthiness of our abilities. By choosing to change limiting thoughts, habits and beliefs, from negative to positive is actually a skill. Being positive and feeling worthy requires persistence, patience, and practice. Surely practicing being positive requires practice like any other skill building activity that we’ve chosen to pursue or have been gifted and decided to perfect.
Think about learning to ride a bike as a child (or something equally necessary to achieve). Perhaps you might agree that the importance of accomplishing this goal took priority over most other things. By continuing to practice riding your bike, and believing it was necessary for you to achieve this goal, actually caused you to improve your skill a little bit more with each passing day. By persisting, also helped you to achieve your goal more quickly; and riding your bike became fun in a relatively short period of time. Achieving goals, feeling worthy and positive, pretty much works the same way as learning to ride your bike. Being positive requires constantly identifying and eliminating the negative aspects of our personality and letting go of what is unuseful. The Law of Attraction simply states, “Positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative.” So logically if we are holding in mind limiting thoughts related to feeling unworthy or not good enough, we are making things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves. What we resist will persist! Or another way of saying is, “How we do anything, is how we do everything!”
The more we dwell in uncertainty, unworthiness or limitation is unknowingly creating more of which we would like to avoid. If we were to take a minute and decided to feel good in this moment, that’s what we would begin to experience. If however we are holding in mind, “This exercise won’t work because it’s too easy or simple,” we’ll prevent ourselves from feeling lighter and happier. What we hold in mind is what we will experience. So let’s try this for our self. Ok give yourself permission to feel good right now. Notice if you actually experienced a slight shift towards feeling better. If so, you are on target. If not, please try this exercise again. Notice anything that feels tense or if you are resisting. If you are resisting, please see this as an opportunity to gently allow yourself to imagine feeling good. If it is helpful, see the situation without the resistance attached.
Acting or thinking negative is actually a deconstructive quality. By making the decision to change how we are thinking requires moving into higher energy and loving ourselves more of the time. The saying, “What we sow is what we reap,” is simplifying this process. By looking at things in a positive, “can-do,” manner is constructively and intentionally moving towards having the life we would like to experience. Believing we can have, do, or be anything is a much better approach than holding in mind, “I can’t or I won’t.” Just thinking things are possible and available actually feels better.
Believing you are special, just as you are in this moment is a very wise and important recognition. Being positive is always moving towards happiness and worthiness. By changing your focus away from negative outcomes, is also allowing your goals to be achieved with less effort. Train yourself to see goodness in whatever you are doing. Also view yourself and others through a positive filter – meaning you are demonstrating feeling worthy, trusting, capable and knowledgeable at all times. It is also demonstrating that you can easily resolve whatever you are working on or towards. Unworthiness is an unnecessary concept to hold onto. Change your mind and your whole picture changes. Prove to yourself just how worthy, capable and talented that you really are. Try it, you’ll like it!
