While listening to people’s gains about how they’re happier, things don’t bother them anymore, etc., I thought, that’s nice, good for them, but SHOW ME THE MONEY! Several days later a $10,000 check arrived in the mail. It was from my dad and he said it was because I was the only one who hadn’t dipped into the family reserve (I hadn’t even known there was a family reserve). My mind tried the old trick of saying it was just a coincidence and it would have happened anyway so it wasn’t a real gain. But the timing was too suspicious so I consider it a bona-fide gain.” – M.D.
